If you don't live a life in service of a greater good, you've got to at least die a death in service of a greater good. And I'm scared I won't get a life or death that means anything.
— Jedidiah to Lattice
Jedidiah Moses Leander (b. 30 July – 9 August), usually nicknamed Jed, was a half-blood wizard of the Leander family, the only son of Moses and Wilma Leander (née Tanglewood). He was also the younger brother of Rue. Born and raised in Knightsbridge, Jedidiah was born into a time of extreme wealth and achievement for the Leander family, with his parents being well-respected members of the wizarding community and leading manufacturers in their own broomstick company.
Upon attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Jed was Sorted into Gryffindor House. Though not much a surprise as the Leander family are traditionally Gryffindor, many people did not see him as a good fit for the House as he was mostly perceived to be shy, clumsy and introverted. He often felt pressured to live up to his family's honour and severely lacked confidence early on in his school years.

The name Jedidiah is a Hebrew baby name, meaning "beloved of the Lord" or "friend of God". In the Hebrew Bible, Jedidiah (Jeddedi in Brenton's Septuagint Translation) was the second or blessing name given by God through the prophet Nathan in infancy to Solomon, second son of King David and Bathsheba.
Moses is a male given name, after the biblical figure Moses. According to the Torah, the name Moses comes from the Hebrew verb, meaning "to draw out" [of water], and the infant Moses was given this name by Pharaoh's daughter after rescuing him from the Nile in Exodus 2:10).
The name Leander is a Greek baby name, although it can be used as a surname; the meaning of this name is "lion-man", which could perhaps be cleverly attributed to the Leanders' most commonly being sorted into Gryffindor.
